1995年に第20回ヒベイロン・プレット現代美術コンクールでグンテル賞受賞、1993年サロン文化協会コンクールでグランプリ賞受賞。
ブラジル国内をはじめ、東京、ニューヨーク、ニュールンベルグで個展を開催する。

1970年代後半、エル・サルバドル内戦の状況の中で、絵筆を離さなかった国立芸術高校の元生徒との精神的連帯を願って、青年海外協力隊の元美術隊員が集まり、1983年に第1回の「グルーポ・サルバドール展」が東京・銀座の画廊で開催された。
同展は第1回の開催から、昨年(2004年)で21年目を迎え、今回はその第9回展の「パート３展」となる。(パート１展は銀座で、パート２展はJICA横浜で開催された。)

Marcelo Pombo continues to develop a world that is apart from the familiar. In his pursuit of building this sublime fantasy,he employs traditional painting motifs such as landscape and abstraction. A significant shift in the new paintings occurs with the introduction of the human form, a subject for which he used surrogates in previous work. However, not abandoning his signature style altogether, the artist abstracts the figure to a mere silhouette of multicolored points within a fantastical landscape. There is also a narrative and iconography not yet seen in his work until now.
Pombo has refined his painting technique with a tremendous increase in detail and handling of the enamel. Laboriously executed, the work is characterized by the use of brilliant colors creating a luminous, candy-like surface.
Marcelo Pombo lives and works in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His work will be included in the exhibit, Populance, curated by David Pagel which will open at the Blaffer Gallery, University of Houston and will travel to the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland. He has shown at other venues including the Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati; Bronx Museum of Art; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tampa; the Americas Society, New York; Museo Nacional Bellas Artes, Buenos Aires; and the Bienal del Mercosur, Porto Alegre, Brazil. Additionally, Pombo has exhibited in several important group shows including All Terrain with Olafur Eliasson, Terisita Fernandez and Hiroshi Sugimoto, and The Visionary Landscape with Fred Tomaselli, Sharon Ellis, and Roxy Paine. Amnesia, which included Ernesto Neto and Tunga, traveled extensively throughout the United States and South America.
